All-on-X Dental Implants in Tega Cay, SC
Missing most or all of your teeth changes far more than how you look. It affects how you eat, how you speak, and how comfortable you feel in your own skin. Traditional dentures can restore the shape of a full smile, but they move, require adhesives, and have to come out at night. All-on-X dental implants offer something more permanent: a complete arch of teeth anchored directly into the jawbone, fixed in place and designed to last.
At Harmony Dental Implants and Oral Surgery, we perform All-on-X procedures at our Tega Cay, SC location using a fully digital surgical workflow and precise, patient-specific treatment planning. Dr. Riddhi Patel, a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with extensive full-arch implant training, places our dental implants.
What Is All-on-X?
All-on-X is a full-arch implant system that uses four to six titanium implants to support a complete row of upper or lower teeth. Rather than replacing each tooth one at a time, the procedure restores an entire arch in a single surgery. The implants are precisely angled within the jaw to anchor a full prosthetic arch, even when bone volume is limited.
The “X” refers to the number of implants used, which is determined by your jaw anatomy and treatment plan. Whether four, five, or six implants are placed, the goal is the same: a fixed, natural-looking set of teeth that does not shift, slip, or require removal. Patients who need treatment for both the upper and lower arches may benefit from full mouth implant rehabilitation, which addresses complete oral reconstruction in a coordinated plan.
Who Is a Candidate for All-on-X?
All-on-X is designed for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth, or whose remaining teeth are failing and cannot be saved. It is also a strong option for current denture wearers who want a fixed, permanent alternative.
Patients who tend to be good candidates for All-on-X often share some of the following characteristics:
- Significant tooth loss from decay, gum disease, or injury
- Current use of full or partial dentures that feel unstable or uncomfortable
- A desire for a permanent, non-removable restoration
- Good overall health with no conditions that prevent healing
Low bone volume does not automatically disqualify you. Bone grafting procedures can rebuild the foundation needed for successful implant placement before or during your surgery, depending on your specific anatomy.
The All-on-X Dental Implant Procedure
Your process starts with a full clinical evaluation and a 3D cone beam CT scan so we can assess your bone structure and map out every implant position in advance. This planning phase is not a formality. Precise placement directly affects integration and long-term results, and we take it seriously.
The Day of Your Surgery
Implants are placed into the jaw while you are sedated. IV sedation is available for patients who prefer to be fully relaxed throughout the procedure. We typically attach a temporary arch of teeth that same day, so most patients leave our Tega Cay office with functional teeth. Teeth-in-a-day is a closely related option that uses the same same-day restoration approach.
After Your Implants Are Placed
Over the following months, the implants bond with the jawbone through a natural process called osseointegration. Once healing is confirmed, your temporary arch is replaced with a permanent, custom-fabricated set of teeth. Research published on the National Institutes of Health’s PubMed database found a cumulative implant survival rate of 97.4% in patients treated with full-arch implant protocols after a mean follow-up of nine years.
Why an Oral Surgeon Should Perform This Procedure
All-on-X is a surgical procedure, not a restorative one. Placing implants at precise angles into a jaw that has lost significant bone requires the kind of training that comes from a hospital-based oral and maxillofacial surgery residency, not a general dentistry background. When a case is complex, that distinction matters.
Dr. Patel completed her surgical residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and spent years performing high-volume full-arch cases before establishing Harmony. She holds a Full Arch Masters certification for All-on-X digital workflow, has trained with Dr. Aparicio on advanced implant techniques, and runs the Carolina Collaborative Study Club, a Seattle Study Club affiliate. She pursues continuing education because she believes the procedure can always be done better, and that standard is reflected in every case we take on.
